Welcome to the Gladstone Region, heart of the Southern Great Barrier Reef and home to incredible natural wonders, including Heron Island, Lady Musgrave Island, Masthead Island, North West Island an heron Island, Breathtaking landscapes, thriving reefs, spectacular rural and coastal hinterlands, pure World Heritage National Parks, burgeoning townships and Australia’s most northerly surf beaches.

About the community

The region is also home to Indigenous cultural sites of great significance to the Bailai, Gurang, Gooreng Gooreng, Taribelang Bunda people, and is abundant in nature reserves which are rich in flora and fauna. Our passionate community are working together to make sustainable choices to protect and preserve the natural resources of the Gladstone Region for future generations.

Sustainability Commitment

Sustainability is at the forefront of the visitor experience with a strong community sense of responsibility for the land, the turtle population and the Great Barrier Reef. The Gladstone region is committed to delivering an outstanding reef experience that is interactive, educational and sustainable, with many local businesses Ecotourism certified.

With seven Eco Certified tourism operators, two of which only announced this year it is evident to see that the tourism operators are also right alongside the destination and everyone is working together to achieve and strive for more in this space.

Eco travel tips

Take your own litter

Take all your own litter and belongings with you, and go one step further by taking any trace of rubbish you see during your visit. Protect the environment and prevent scavenging behaviour from our furry friends.

Reduce your consumption of plastic

When visiting Gladstone Ports Corporations Marina, support their pledge to become a plasticfree marina by 2025 by reducing or not using plastic
