Sustainability Commitment

We are committed to responsible travel and true sustainability on all of our Australian walking holidays. It was a commitment formed when the company was established, and today, in the face of a multitude of threats to the environment, our commitment is stronger than ever. We aim to ensure that our destinations retain their natural character and cultural diversity for future generations. This vision can only be achieved with the support of all our travellers and business partners. Here are some of the ways our practices are leading the way in the industry: In 2000 our parent company, World Expeditions, developed the award winning Responsible Travel Guidebook which presented our comprehensive policies on sustainable travel.  Over the years our Responsible Travel Guidebook has evolved to meet the ever-changing landscape of sustainable travel. In its newest version it is known as The Thoughtful Traveller booklet, an easy to read document that empowers travellers with ideas on how they can be part of the solution and collectively change make the world a better place when they travel. Sustainability has been at the heart of our operations since we pioneered the Larapinta trek back in 1995. Our four architecturally designed, semi-permanent campsite facilities incorporate sustainable technologies including: water-free toilets solar lighting systems hybrid grey water disposal system designed for the arid environment semi-permanent campsite structures to allow the land to recover during the off-season All decking is made from sustainable, recycled composite timber decking to minimise impact on the environment Building materials, colours and style of the campsites were chosen to blend in with the surrounding environment aesthetically, whilst maintaining the idyllic natural setting of wilderness sites. All our trips are 100% carbon offset and will directly support renewable energy and reforestation projects in Australia and around the world. While all travel has unavoidable carbon emissions, we're continuing to take action to reduce our footprint and improve our operations. Our remaining unavoidable carbon footprint is then calculated for each trip and at no additional cost to you, our active holidays will offset the carbon emissions from your land travel to support a conservation project in Australia, a wind farm in Vietnam, a habitat protection project in Zimbabwe and a hydropower plant in China.
