FEATURED HALL OF FAME

Hervey Bay Whale Watch

Brian and Jill Perry are the inventors of whale watching in Hervey Bay. Since starting in 1987 they have been at the forefront of the whale watching industry, taking out the tourism awards for excelence last year. Brian is the Vice President of the newly formed National Whale and Dolphin Watch Association.

In June 2003 a new vessel will be launched (Quick Cat II) with all the latest in technology including underwater viewing and hydrophones to listen to the whales singing.

Quick Cat II will be wheelchair accessable all around the main deck including to the foredeck, the first vessel to offer this. It will operate half day whale watch trips between mid July and early November.

While being very user friendly Quick Cat II has been designed to be very environmentally friendly. Brian and Jill have spent many long hours working with the latest technology and designs to produce the green machine. Low wake and wash. While being a very fast vessel, it will produce less pollution using smaller engines.

Quick Cat II will also run Eco Tours from Hervey Bay taking some of the beautiful areas around the world heritage-listed K’gari (formerly Fraser Island) and the Great Sandy Straights. On these trips you will be able to see dolphins, turtles and bird life, with stop-offs at award-winning Kingfisher Bay Resort and deserted islands along the way.

Quick Cat II will still offer all the goodies that passengers have come to expect from Brian, Jill and daughter Sarah’s cruises. Home made muffins, pastries etc. Fully licensed with a host of drinks and sweets to choose from.

Quick Cat II is a non smoking vessel.

Sustainability Commitment

Hervey Bay Whale Watch is the longest established whale watch operator in Australia, with more than 45 awards for excellence. The family business works closely with not-for-profit research and information organisation the Oceania Project and with the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service to protect humpback whales. They have also built a vessel with low wake, low wash, smaller engines and wheelchair access to minimise their impacts on the marine environment and ensure that all visitors can enjoy its wonders.

Quick Cat II

Quick Cat II offers the most popular whale watching trip in Australia, the half day trip.
Departing 8.00am till 12 noon and again at 1.00pm till 5pm daily from mid July till early November. We were the first in Australia to guarantee whale sightings and are still the only company that has its own whale spotter aircraft.
Over the years we have tried whale watching in big boats with hundreds of people, but decided to stay in the small to mid range. We have found that we are able to offer very personal, face to face and educational whale watching trips, while adding a few stories of past years from the very beginning of the industry of experiences we have gained. Even though we can offer information and give a very informative service on each vessel we like to see our whale watching passengers becoming involved. We are not just a voice on the microphone. We like you to ask the questions, and if on the very rare occasions that we can’t answer your questions, we will find out.
