Kestrel Nest EcoHut is an off-grid and off-line eco-retreat. it is located on our farm – Highfield Farm and Woodland. Our farm is 2/3rds a conservation area protecting critically endangered Box Gum Grassy Woodland and the creatures that depend on it.
Kestrel Nest sits right on the edge of our farmland and our conservation land. Guests can freely explore the conservation area via the many tracks thru it. The off-grid nature of the property means that guests can get a sense of their energy consumption and how easy it is to live without mains power. The off-line nature of the property means that guests have the opportunity for undistracted time in nature.

Farming with Habitat Tour
On farm tour highlighting how we aim to farm with nature rather than against her. Includes viewing various Landcare Projects conducted on the farm aimed at increasing biodiversity and enhancing water quality
Bird Watching Tour
Over 140 different bird species have been identifed on our farm and in our conservation area. We take you on a tour of our property not only looking for birds but also discussing what habitats make for good bird diversity.
Object Weaving
Learn to make items such as bowls, brooches, earrings and abstract items using materials found in our garden and on our farm. You will learn about the role of the plants we use in the habitat and learn about responsible harvesting. Depending on your interest we can use different methods such as two different types of coil weaving or random weave. All materials provided. Three hour workshop. $300
Seed Collecting - Seasonal
As well as collecting seed for our own re-vegetation efforts, we also collect seed from our conservation area for use by our local Landcare Nursery where plants are raised for environmental projects in our region. We will talk about the importance of our habitat, responsible seed collecting, some plant identification and then go out and collect some seed. This is a seasonal activity best suited to late spring and summer. This activity is not suitable for children. This activity will run for about 1.5 hours. Check with us if it is available during your stay. $100 per party.
Seed Bomb Making
Our re-vegetation efforts rely on sourcing seed as locally as possible. Help us make seed bombs containing seeds sourced on Highfield for distribution on Highfield. All materials supplied. Workshop is about 1.5 hours. Suitable for children over 7 and over. $100 per party.
Wildflower Walk - Seasonal
Our conservation area has many wildflowers in late winter and early spring. Join Louise on a Wildflower Walk. We will hunt around to see what we can see. Our finds will be logged with citizen science platform iNaturalist to add to the information we have on Highfield. Two hours. This is a seasonal activity. Check if it is available during your stay. $100 per party.
