Pennicott Wilderness Journeys' new Bruny Island Cruises Visitor Centre is a significant investment in the world’s best practice energy efficiency. Currently operating off-grid and not drawing energy resources off Bruny Island, the facility houses 202 85 watt solar panels, 28 tonnes of batteries and a sophisticated electrical system as well as a backup 220 KVA generator. All water for cooking and drinking is captured rainwater and the company uses its own bore system for the rest of the building. Pennicott has also invested in a sophisticated toilet treatment system, with four completely independent systems to cope with the volume of visitors and puts pure water back into the ground.
